Investor Appeals to Cambodia’s Justice Ministry Over Alleged Misconduct at YY Capital
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally sought the intervention of Cambodian authorities in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing allegations of financial misconduct and breaches of trust.
In letters submitted to the Ministry of Justice, the investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed due to actions by Yamada, a Japanese national and chairman of YY Capital. The investor is requesting official support to ensure a fair investigation and accountability.
According to the letters, Yamada allegedly inflated purchase prices in several Cambodian real estate deals, with preliminary findings suggesting that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and that of others. The investor also alleges that false business transactions were created, including loans totaling more than $7 million, and that documents were forged and cash diverted through shell companies connected to Yamada and his associates. Some funds are reportedly transferred to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The correspondence further claims that Yamada established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees, while maintaining direct control over related bank accounts and transactions.
In Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases linked to Yamada and others, with certain assets and bank accounts frozen by court orders. Additional investigations are said to be ongoing.
Authorities in other jurisdictions—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are reportedly examining related allegations of embezzlement, breach of trust, document forgery, and money laundering.
The investor urged Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough and impartial investigations and warned that potential interference could allow suspects to evade accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
At the time of reporting, YY Capital and Yamada Taihei had not issued any public response to the allegations.
